Abstract

The life of a professional musician brings many physical demands. This case study focusing on the need for a drummer to look after their physical well-being in order to perform well. The drummer believed that his massages were necessary if he were to perform his best on long world tours and felt the charge was a legitimate cost to the band, in the same way guitar strings might be. This was a matter of dispute which the mediation was able to uncover was due to more psychological concerns about respect and value. The chapter shows how mediation was able to resolve the issue both the practical and psychological issues.
