Abstract
Part One is focused on understanding the concept of conflict. In this chapter, the author offers some historical perspectives on the subject. She then looks at how individuals respond differently in conflict situations. She challenges the view that conflict is usually negative and destructive and explores how we cannot live or develop without it and how it can be used creatively.
