Anomalous Singularities
Abstract
Tribal sovereignty tests the international order and its place within the political structure of the surrounding states in ways that lead us to ask: How, given a somewhat different understanding of tribes, might one reconceptualize tribal sovereignty in the presence of state power? How might an altered paradigm of tribes contribute to a revised concept of sovereignty generally? What alternatives exist for extending tribal jurisdiction over their own members while still respecting their inclusion as citizens of the larger state?
