Afterword
Abstract
Native peoples commonly assert their viability in the face of hostility and, in the process, further demonstrate, like the miners’ canary that signals when the environment is dangerous for all, that tribes can offer us an example of adaptability our earlier concepts have too easily reduced to unhelpful stereotypes. “We are still here,” say many tribesmen, and by their being so present conceptual and ethical issues a more accurate vision of tribes offered here may help to establish.
