Abstract

This chapter outlines key professional responsibilities in student affairs, including ethical decision-making, self-reflection, and alignment with core values that support inclusive and effective practice. Foundational concepts such as ethical literacy, positionality, and worldview are introduced as lenses that shape professional interactions. Building on this foundation, the chapter examines what it means to be a culturally responsive practitioner by exploring the development of multicultural competence, cultural humility, and the skills needed to engage across difference. Key terms and concepts related to cultural knowledge are also discussed to illuminate the lived experiences of diverse students. Through practical frameworks and real-world examples, student affairs professionals are encouraged to critically reflect on their role in advancing equity, respect, and student well-being across campus contexts.
