Abstract

This chapter explores the positive and negative impacts that mothers have on father–daughter relationships. The focus is on the mother’s and society’s insulting stereotypes about fathers and the mother’s gatekeeping and enmeshment and role reversals with the children. Specific solutions are offered for fathers and for daughters to handle situations where the mother is having a negative impact, using real-life stories and conversations. The chapter also explains how mothers can help fathers and daughters create a more personal, closer bond without feeling jealous or competitive.
