My Work Will Make a Difference
Abstract
At the heart of The Teacher Longevity Framework , readers will find the overarching conclusion: “My work will make a difference.” The truth is, teachers plant seeds every day as they implement instruction, connect with students, invest in small moments and create classroom communities. It is highly likely that teachers will not have the opportunity to see these seeds mature and flourish. Learning takes time, and although some may wish all students followed the same chronological timelines for success, the truth is success will arrive for some students long after their time in a specific classroom context. This chapter outlines key research to bolster the idea that the work of teachers has lasting positive ripple effects well beyond the here and now. The chapter summarizes critical strategies and approaches for teacher resilience and longevity. The chapter closes with a reflection teachers can complete to solidify their learning from this book and plan to internalize the positive messages in their future teaching experiences.
