Abstract

This chapter offers practicable actions teachers can take to sustain deep care and concern for student well-being. A key consideration in this area is how educators can practice from a place of care and love for students without exhausting themselves and falling into compassion fatigue. Concepts such as unconditional acceptance, returning to joy and relationship life preservers may sound helpful in theory, but how might they take shape in practice? This chapter will delve into these mindsets and translate them into action. Teaching is a highly personal profession, and each teacher will bring their unique lens and style to the approaches offered in this chapter. The hope is that the strategies provided will improve the well-being of both teachers and students, resulting in healthier classrooms and lasting positive outcomes. Using the approaches in this chapter, teachers can sustain deep care and concern for each learner and thus, they can grow in their resilience and longevity.
