Conclusion
Abstract
This chapter provides an overview of some of the key arguments of the book, recognizing the sensitivity around critiquing humanitarianism since it is understood as a moral good. The humanitarian fable produces an orientation for understanding gross global inequality that normalizes the perspective of the affluent in the global North and constructs a relation in which they are situated as an innocent bystander with the responsibility of fixing the problems of the poor. This conclusion points towards the need for a reorientation. This book provides a critical reflection on the moral sanctity of humanitarianism, towards recognition that aid is not the only, or best, approach to addressing gross material inequality in the world.
