Abstract

The pursuit of sustainable development (SD) in higher education institutions (HEIs) has become increasingly significant due to escalating environmental, social, and economic challenges. Universities serve as key drivers of sustainability by integrating environmentally responsible practices, fostering ethical leadership, and maintaining openness in decision-making processes. Simultaneously, cultivating and sustaining stakeholder trust is crucial for institutional reputation, student involvement, and long-term academic growth. This study presents an extensive review of the literature exploring the connection between sustainability efforts in HEIs and the trust of their stakeholders. The chapter introduces a research framework aimed at guiding future investigations into how sustainability initiatives impact trust levels among students, faculty members, and the broader community.
