Abstract

As Chapters 3 and 4 show, British and American segregation policies were different, even as the British shared their practices with the Americans and the two militaries worked closely together. The British knowledge of German soldiers and methods of segregation just did not seem to fit the goals of the American PMGO, and they chose not to consider them. This created serious unforeseen problems. This chapter details some of the problems that evolved as an outcome of the American segregation policies from the seemingly benign to the deadly. It follows with insight into how the two policies’ segregation processes were developed and evolved over the war, a process that influenced how the two militaries chose to define and classify the different types of German soldiers.
