Abstract

This pivotal chapter in the book delves into the empirical observation of the translation product, offering a valuable complement to the cognitive retention (CR) framework. It takes a multilingual perspective to scrutinise the phenomenon of force dynamics (FD). Amidst these accomplishments, the research material gathered served as the cornerstone for a theoretical and analytical framework illustrated to distinguish between linguistic and cognitive aspects of translation. This chapter presents the research materials and methods ( Section 3.1 ), as well as the results and analyses derived from three distinct aspects of the study ( Sections 3.2 – 3.4 ). Qualitative and quantitative methods were applied to attain an empirical overview of the phenomena of CR and FD. Hence, the analysis unfolded in two distinct approaches: a qualitative exploration that closely examined the practical manifestation of FD in translation by drawing insights from existing texts ( Sections 3.2 – 3.3 ), and a quantitative investigation aimed at testing the cognitive retention hypothesis ( Section 3.4 ), as delineated by the previously established theoretical model.
