Abstract

This chapter examines nurturance as the spiritual quality of fostering growth, healing and wellbeing in ourselves and others. Drawing from insights in psychology, caregiving, and education, the chapter emphasizes that nurturance involves both intentional acts of care and the everyday ways we shape the emotional and spiritual environments around us. It explores how nurturance is essential not only in direct support roles, but also in leadership and organizational culture. Attention is given to the power dynamics that can either enhance or inhibit nurturing relationships, especially in contexts of oppression or marginalization. The chapter encourages readers to reflect on how their own spirituality can be a source of nurturance and how cultivating this quality contributes to empowerment, resilience, and positive human connection.
