Abstract

This chapter examines security as a key component of spiritual wellbeing, focusing on the sense of being safe, grounded and at peace within oneself. It considers how both internal and external sources of security – such as self-acceptance, stable relationships and supportive environments – contribute to spiritual fulfilment. The chapter also explores the impact of insecurity, including fear, instability, and marginalization, which can severely disrupt a person’s spiritual and emotional equilibrium. Attention is given to how practitioners can help individuals build or rebuild a sense of security through empowering relationships, respectful engagement and creating spaces of psychological safety. The importance of cultural sensitivity and trauma-informed approaches is emphasized. Ultimately, the chapter affirms security as a precondition for openness, growth and the ability to live in accordance with one’s values.
