Levitating backwards
Abstract
Accompanying an old man to the site of his mother&s;s home, the ruin of the house on top of a hill, in which he was born 95 years ago, takes the reader to the history of Pindiga before the colonial era. From the hill, the vastness of the savannah is visible, through which the ancestors of the elder, who tells his story, migrated. Different ways of talking about this migration, and how diverse people, places, spiritual practices and language practices remain entangled as a consequence of this experience, but also of the storytelling itself, are demonstrated to bear different meanings, through the poetic and communicative resources with which they are composed.
