Abstract

Here, the connections between time in a world that is out of control and amazement are explored. As some words resist easy access and control, confusion and order seep through the stories told and make translation a difficult task: it turns out as being not only a matter of translating meaning but also positionality, stance, and context. Existing in a zone between being able to understand and being foreign and unable to speak was an experience shared by many in the mobile, diverse, multiethnic and polylingual communities, such as in Pindiga and its surroundings. What this meant and how humans and birds were related is explored in this chapter.
