‘The old socialist idea that knowledge is power’
Abstract
The 1959 programme ushered in a transformation in the SPD’s relations with intellectual circles. To appreciate quite how important this innovation was, we ought to bear in mind the age-old socialist understanding that knowledge and power substantially go hand-in-hand. This chapter focuses on this inextricable connection.
