ICT to Improve Governance and Service Delivery
Abstract
Like many countries, governments have leveraged Information and Communication Technology (ICT) to modernise governance and improve public service delivery. ICT tools, such as computers, the internet, mobile applications, and online platforms, allow citizens to access services, provide feedback, participate in decision-making, and monitor government performance. E-governance initiatives, including online permits, taxes, health services, and citizen report cards, have expanded access to services, especially for rural and disadvantaged communities. By improving efficiency, transparency, and communication, ICT reduces costs and makes government operations more citizen-friendly. However, challenges such as limited access to technology, low awareness, and resistance to change remain. To succeed, governments need robust infrastructure, training, and citizen-focused policies. ICT can make governance more effective, fair, and responsive, strengthening service delivery and building trust between citizens and the state.
