Abstract

This chapter explores the motivational and aspirational dimensions of values-based practice. It begins by asking what it means to truly make a difference and connects this ambition with the pursuit of high standards, personal integrity and professional responsibility. The discussion examines the role of vulnerability and the concept of ‘spiritual intelligence’ (SQ) in helping practitioners remain grounded, reflective and open to growth. Rather than offering technical solutions, the chapter invites deep introspection and reaffirms the humanistic roots of the caring professions. By linking values to personal development, it encourages practitioners to remain passionate and principled, even in challenging environments. Ultimately, it positions making a difference not as a heroic act, but as the cumulative result of daily decisions informed by care, courage and commitment.
