Abstract

Focusing on anti-discriminatory practice, this chapter explores the pervasive impact of discrimination and the importance of actively challenging oppression. Drawing on the metaphor of Sisyphus, it acknowledges the ongoing struggle for social justice and the setbacks that can occur even after progress is made. The chapter emphasizes the need to celebrate diversity rather than simply tolerate it, and it highlights the critical role that values play in shaping practice. Readers are urged to develop self-awareness, question assumptions and engage in collective efforts to resist and challenge discriminatory behaviours and systems. Anti-discriminatory practice is presented not as an optional extra but as central to professional integrity. By linking theory to practice, the chapter calls for continual reflection and action to ensure inclusive and empowering service delivery.
