“There is no there there”
Abstract
In Death in the Land of Encantos (2006) and Storm Children, Book One (2014), the landscape is turned upside down, with perspectives bent after the passage of typhoons that scramble coordinates. Where are we after this shockwave? Some inhabitants try in vain to reconstruct their home, to recreate what was; others update the place where they are, taking account of the present despite its fragility. To survive, each person becomes their own island, their own country, carving out a piece of land for themselves when the common land is ravaged. From now on, everything can only take place right here.
