Abstract

Discipline should heal, not harm. This chapter explores restorative practices as tools for building learning cultures, repairing relationships, and creating inclusive school communities. Exclusionary practices communicate that problems exist externally and often deepen issues, especially with the vulnerable populations we have in our schools. Conversely, restorative practices transform behavior, community dynamics and culture by providing spaces to learn from mistakes and grow together as a community.
