Abstract

Addressing systemic inequalities is essential. This chapter examines equity gaps in grading, funding, and resources while exploring pathways toward more just systems. For instance, grading systems often measure privilege and compliance rather than learning, often disguising systemic barriers as individual learning or behavioral deficits. On the other hand, asset-based practices recognize the strengths of students while also making space for the needed support. Equity is not about identical treatment; it is about providing what each student needs to achieve their greatest potential.
