Abstract

The kind of writing required for National Board Certification is very specific, and not understanding how to write for successful certification can easily lead to a candidate's downfall. Candidates should not approach the writing assignments for each component like they would approach an essay for an English class, for example; rather, the writing style is much closer to how one would write a lab report in science. In other words, highly descriptive language using an abundance of literary devices is not necessary; the ability to find appropriate data, effectively analyze it, and implement next steps based on data is . This chapter coaches candidates how to write in an analytical fashion, to use appropriate word choice, and to reflect effectively.
