Component 1
Abstract
Component 1 (C1) of National Board Certification is a test designed to measure a candidate's content knowledge, and there are two main sections. The first section is the Selected Response section, and it consists of multiple choice questions. Accordingly, the first part of this chapter is a study guide for those questions and leans heavily on the National Board's Standards for World Languages. The second section of the C1 test is the Constructed Response section, and it consists of three essay tests on the topics of language acquisition, culture, and curriculum & instruction, respectively. The second part of this chapter provides tips and strategies for writing these essays.
