Abstract

This chapter addresses critical gaps in the existing literature on criminological outcomes among children in care and care leavers, emphasizing the need to incorporate socio-economic factors and conduct more granular analyses by region and local area. Current research often overlooks the socio-economic status of these young individuals, potentially masking important nuances. By including socio-economic variables, researchers and practitioners can achieve a deeper understanding of the interplay between socio-economic factors and criminal involvement. By addressing these gaps and prioritizing these critical variables, future research can inform more effective policies and interventions, ultimately reducing criminal behaviour and improving life outcomes for this vulnerable population.
