Abstract

It is an established fact of archaeology and history that sea-crafts were in vogue since the dawn of civilization. From the valley of the Nile to the valley of the Indus, there existed a number of river valley civilizations in Egypt, Mesopotamia, and the Indus valley, now partly in Pakistan and partly in India. The beginnings of the Indus valley civilization, often identified as the Mohen-ja-daro-Harrapa civilization was contemporary with the Sumerian civilization of the Euphrates-Tigris valley, and in later days the Babylonian civilization, as recognized by the artifacts and seals of those areas.
