Abstract

This chapter explores the profound relationship between creativity and existential wellness, tracing its historical, philosophical, and psychological roots. From Ancient Greek notions of eudaimonia, through Renaissance humanism, Romanticism, existentialist philosophy, and humanistic psychology, creative expression has long been viewed as a vital means of confronting life’s ultimate concerns—mortality, freedom, meaning, and authenticity. Contemporary existential wellness coaching illustrates how blocked or struggling artists—including writers, painters, and dancers—experience crises of identity, meaning, and vitality when disconnected from their creativity. Through case studies, the chapter demonstrates coaching strategies that help clients reframe creativity as an existential stance, resist perfectionism and external pressures, and reclaim artistic practice as an act of freedom, resistance, and life affirmation. Seven practical tips for supporting clients in reigniting their creative nature are offered, emphasizing creativity as both a birthright and a central dimension of existential wellness.
