Abstract

This chapter explores the concept of life purposes within the framework of existential wellness coaching. It argues against the notion of a singular, preordained life purpose, proposing instead that individuals can cultivate multiple, personally meaningful purposes throughout their lives. The pursuit of a singular life purpose is presented as a source of unnecessary suffering, confusion, and existential distress. By shifting the focus from an elusive, overarching purpose to a constellation of flexible and evolving purposes, clients can experience greater agency, resilience, and wellness. The chapter highlights how existential wellness coaching can help individuals recognize, select, and sustain diverse life purposes as part of an intentional approach to meaning-making. This reframing empowers clients to navigate life with clarity and vitality, embracing the freedom and responsibility of shaping their own existential path.
