Abstract

The expansion of the number of industrial nations was one of the leading features of the new, post World War II period. This had been true of the two previous periods, but the late-twentieth century expansion was particularly extensive. More and more countries figured out a way to join the world’s industrial club, particularly by the 1980s and 1990s.
