New Causes
Abstract
Explaining the industrial revolution is a challenge to historians and other history-users. Despite serious and imaginative analysis over many decades, there is still no full agreement on causation, though some options have been pretty well eliminated. New kinds of debates have surfaced recently, particularly through attempts to take a more global approach, but also because of interest in changes that preceded the shift to steam-powered technology, like the idea of an “industrious revolution.”
