Abstract

From this chapter onwards, the examination of the Soviet economy is more thematical than chronological. This chapter delves into the USSR’s relation to the world market. It is made clear that the USSR participated in competition of capitals on the world market, one of the criteria necessary to affirm that the capitalist mode of production reigned in the Soviet Union. Moreover, it is shown that the USSR was imperialist. It is also shown that the Soviet Union was not an economic rival to the United States but was in fact a developing country. The role the world market played in the USSR’s crisis is highlighted.
