Abstract

In Chapter 1 , an interactive model of the transformative process of school effectiveness and improvement was presented ( Figure 1.4 ). The model has four major components: school culture and climate; school technology: curriculum and instruction; organizational structures and procedures; and instructional leadership. They were used as frames of reference for analyzing the data and presenting the case studies. It is through leadership by the principal and in conjunction with school staff that changes occurred in the other three components to bring about school improvement and increased effectiveness at the classroom level. This chapter summarizes the key findings from the eight schools in relationship to the four components of the model, examining the components separately and in relationship to each other. Conclusions will be drawn regarding the developmental nature of the school effectiveness and improvement process.
