Abstract

On July 16, 1969, millions of people watched as Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin landed on the surface of the moon. Neil Armstrong's famous words, “One small step for man, one giant leap for mankind”, summarised the essence of teamwork. Over 400,000 people, including scientists, engineers and technicians worked on the project for several years before the launch. The teams studied satellite photographs of the surface of the moon to ascertain the best landing site. Many of the people in the project had never worked in the aerospace industry, but they made a cohesive team that astronauts were able to work with, establishing a strong human connection, which is the blood of any team ( Keup, 2019 ).
