The ideational factors and discourses of persistence—part II
Abstract
This part elucidates four novel categories. Inter alia, Category 6 delineates terrorism-inspiring subversive discourses and the inverse correlation between terrorists’ negative media coverage and terrorism generation. It thus contradicts the cliché that publicity is terrorists’ oxygen. The next category underpins the brimming existence of radicalism in Pakistan and its continual generation, and hence the satirical scepticism about retrieving the reactionary , where even the well-educated can be radicalised easily. Category 8 represents part of a socio-culturally driven substantive process. Apart from analysing the radicalising role of madrassa teachers and the broader religious right in polarising society, the sources of madrassas’ recruitment are located in the interconnected birth control–poverty dynamics. Finally, ending is an illusion nails the myth about terrorism, ever completely abating. It represents strong cross-cutting perceptions and discourses about the impossibility of ending terrorism, at the same time insinuating that its control is possible.
