Capital budgeting
Abstract
The capital budgeting decision refers to the investment in long-term assets. Capital budgeting is often used interchangeably with terms like ‘capital expenditure’ (capex) or capital investment. A capital budgeting decision is considered to be final since it entails significant financial commitments and a high level of risk regarding the company's ability to generate future returns. For the project to be successful, a thorough analysis and evaluation of the suggested capital budgeting decision are therefore necessary. To ascertain which projects will provide the highest return over a specified time frame, capital budgeting techniques must be applied.
