Historical Origins and Construction Framework of the National Cultural System
Abstract
A typical characteristic that distinguishes China’s cultural system from Western cultural management models is the integration of the national cultural system with the party’s ideological leadership. The origin of the modern cultural system is connected to the forms of the public cultural sphere before 1949, deeply influenced by the concept of the nation-state within the public cultural sphere. The modern cultural system includes the special institutional traditions formed in the struggle for cultural and ideological leadership between the KMT and the CPC, reflecting the “path dependence” feature in institutional change. Examining the logical process of the development of modern Chinese cultural systems before 1949 provides a historical perspective for the reform of contemporary China’s cultural system.
