Nuclear power decisions
Abstract
For those who suspect that British government can be both incompetent and undemocratic, the story of Britain’s nuclear power programme is a persuasive example. In 1979, The Sunday Times commented: Tor a quarter of a century Britain’s nuclear future has been a story of muddle, indecision, and bitter controversy’. Nearly ten years on, little seemed to have changed. The Independent observed: ‘The history of nuclear power in Britain has been a history of dithering and of decisions made and then unmade and then remade.’ 1
