Abstract

In a rapidly digitalising world, Artificial Intelligence (AI) has emerged as a transformative force in education. However, the uneven distribution of AI knowledge and tools has created a critical gap in educational access and equity. This chapter examines the pressing need to enhance AI literacy across diverse learning communities, positioning it as a crucial enabler for inclusive, high-quality and future-orientated education. Our objective is to provide actionable strategies for integrating AI literacy into formal and informal education systems. The expected impact includes (a) developing accessible, open-source AI learning resources; (b) empowering educators through targeted training; (c) promoting interdisciplinary collaboration for complex problem solving; and (d) fostering global networks to share best practices. Drawing on the authors’ experiences in research, international educational projects, and networks such as Maker@STEAM and the Centre for Science Education, we propose a roadmap for democratising AI literacy.
