Abstract

This chapter explores the transformative potential of artificial intelligence (AI) to promote sustainable development, address climate change, and foster social equity. It highlights AI’s role in optimizing resource efficiency, accelerating innovation, and enabling scalable, global solutions that align with environmental, economic, and social objectives. Emphasis is placed on AI as a catalyst for sustainable growth, demonstrating its ability to streamline processes, improve predictive decision-making, and drive efficiency across sectors such as agriculture, manufacturing, energy, and urban planning. The chapter examines AI’s contributions to climate change mitigation and adaptation, including renewable energy optimization, carbon footprint reduction, smart urban planning, disaster risk management, water resource allocation, and food security. It also addresses AI’s applications in environmental conservation, such as ecosystem monitoring, biodiversity protection, climate prediction, and restoration initiatives. Ethical considerations, technological limitations, and challenges of AI deployment are critically analyzed, with a focus on responsible innovation and equitable access. Furthermore, the chapter explores how AI fosters social inclusiveness by promoting equitable access to education, healthcare, and social services while reducing economic inequalities. The integration of AI with systemic, technological, and social innovation is emphasized as essential for transformative change and long-term sustainability. By bridging advanced AI technologies with sustainability agendas, this chapter illustrates the multidimensional role of AI in achieving environmental resilience, economic efficiency, and social justice, highlighting its potential as a key enabler of a sustainable and equitable future for communities worldwide.
