Implementing Peace Pedagogy for Conflict Resolution
Abstract
In an era of escalating global conflicts and social divisions, peace pedagogy emerges as a crucial educational approach for conflict resolution. This study explores the foundational principles and effective strategies within peace pedagogy, emphasizing its role in fostering a culture of peace and nonviolence. Peace pedagogy integrates core concepts such as empathy, critical thinking, and inclusivity into educational curricula, aiming to equip learners with essential skills for constructive dialogue and conflict resolution. Historical evolution and theoretical frameworks underpinning peace pedagogy are examined, alongside contemporary models including transformative peace education, restorative practices, and social and emotional learning (SEL). The study finds that embedding peace pedagogy into educational systems not only enhances students’ understanding of conflict dynamics but also promotes ongoing engagement in resolving disputes peacefully. Successful implementation of peace pedagogy requires continuous integration into curricula, supportive stakeholders, and ongoing educator development. Future research is recommended to further explore innovative methods and assess the long-term impacts of peace education on diverse communities.
