Rational reasoning and human implementations of logic
Abstract
Recent psychological debate about the role of logic in human reasoning orientates itself to logical calculi, either by proposing them as mechanisms of reasoning (e.g. Braine, 1978 ) or by rejecting any role for them and proposing to supplant them with purportedly non-formal mechanisms (e.g. Johnson-Laird, 1983 ; Johnson-Laird and Byrne, 1991 ).
