China, US, and EU environmental competition
Abstract
Competition over green technology is a new field of conflict between China, the US, and the EU. Over 20 years ago China focused on solar, wind, battery, and EV production as a strategy for green accumulation and global leadership. Meanwhile, the US fell far behind caught in endless political debates over the reality of global warming science. Europe has occupied a middle ground, but production costs and the size of China’s market have put tremendous pressure on European producers. Instead of cooperation to solve global crisis tariffs, bankruptcies and charges of overproduction are now common. The capitalist market is proving itself incapable of saving the planet.
