Community Education in Austria
Abstract
In Austria, the concept of community education has been recently adopted in policy and practice, although it has a strong tradition in practice under different terms in the German language. This chapter provides a comprehensive perspective on the concept of community education in Austria, focusing on both policy and practice following the Austrian Lifelong Learning Strategy (LLL:2020). It presents a historical and conceptual overview of community education in Austria. It then discusses the current fields of action, institutions and organisations involved in community education, as well as challenges and future perspectives.
