Abstract

This chapter traces the development of planning in Edinburgh from the lead up to the first town planning legislation in 1909, through until the outbreak of the Second World War. A critical approach to this practice can be built around the theoretical structure set out in Part One: the inter-related changes at the economic political and cultural levels need to be explored empirically in terms of their specific local impacts.
