Abstract

This is a collection of selected articles from the Dutch Journal of Women’s Studies (Tijdschrift voor Vrouwenstudies) , the most influential publication in this field in the Netherlands. The foreign reader may need a few guidelines in order fully to appreciate the importance of this collection. Over the last twenty years, much ink has been spilled over cultural phenomena such as ‘French feminism’, ‘Anglo-American feminism’ and other ‘hyphenated’ sorts of feminisms. Some have argued that these expressions are all misnomers that fail to account for the complexity of nation-specific women’s movements and related cultural phenomena. Nevertheless, these intercultural cross-fertilizations have played a major role in the international debate and continue to contribute a great deal to setting the theoretical agenda.
