Abstract

Ethnicity is a difficult concept to define. The other priority groups considered in this book are identified by the single criterion of age. However, ethnic minorities may be distinguished from the ‘indigenous’ population in the UK because they are foreign-bom, speak a different language, have a distinctive cultural background, follow a particular religion, or belong to a particular racial type.
