Abstract

The establishment of the Glacial Maximum as a temporal mark allows a global overview of archaeological evidence for human adaptations, at a time when many high-latitude environments must have presented marginal conditions for survival. As a contrast to these regions, this chapter details evidence of settlement from a low-latitude setting in the southern Levantine valley of Wadi al-Hammeh, which was well buffered from harsh environmental extremes.
