Abstract
From its foundational perspective, this book is an evidential study on the origins of the ci 詞 lyric. To examine this issue within a broader context, the study encompasses all uneven-line lyrics of the Sui 隋 (581–618), Tang 唐 (618–907), and Five Dynasties ( wudai 五代, 907–960), excluding only those composed for state sacrificial ceremonies.
