Construction of the Methodology System in Translation Studies
Abstract
This chapter explores the construction of the methodology system in translation studies, emphasizing its dynamic, open, and interdisciplinary nature. It highlights the distinction between translation methods (practical techniques) and translation research methods (theoretical exploration), underscoring their complementary roles in advancing the discipline. The chapter categorizes translation methodology into three levels: translation views, strategies, and specific methods, while translation research methodology is structured into philosophical, general, and specific research methods. It reviews existing systems proposed by scholars like Huang Zhonglian, Jiang Qiuxia, and Li Huihong, pointing out their strengths and limitations. The discussion underscores the need for a coherent, hierarchical framework that integrates transdisciplinary approaches while preserving the uniqueness of translation studies. By systematizing methodology, this chapter aims to enhance the discipline’s theoretical foundation and practical application, fostering its maturity and recognition.
